5 Must-Know Tips for Summer AC Maintenance in Sanibel Island

With average summer temperatures in Florida sitting solidly in the 80s for months on ends and record highs topping out well above 100, it goes without saying that A/C Maintenance on Sanibel Island is something you certainly won’t want to neglect.

Before the temperatures start to climb, you’ll want to get a head start on your HVAC maintenance tasks. Not sure what you need to do to make sure you can stay cool and collected all summer long? These five tips will help you get started.

1. Clean and Change Your Air Filters

Regularly cleaning and changing your air filters is the single most important thing you can do to make sure your HVAC system lasts as long as possible. This will also help it reach peak performance all year long.

Make sure you use the type of filters that are recommended by your manufacturer. Also, change them out on a regular schedule and set a reminder so you don’t forget this important task.

2. Clear the Surrounding Area

To work properly, your AC unit needs at least three feet of space all the way around and five feet of open space above it. Before you start taxing your system, make sure it can get proper airflow by clearing out any brush, fallen branches, and other clutter.

3. Clean the Condenser and Coils

You’ll want to make sure there’s no build-up in your condenser as this can restrict airflow and cause performance issues. Clean any mold spores or pollen that has accumulated on the coils using a soft cloth or low-pressure canned air. Just make sure to blow it out, not in.

After you’re done cleaning the outside of your unit, open up the box and gently clean out the inside as well.

4. Check the Coolant Lines

Next, check the refrigerant lines that run from the outdoor condenser to the evaporator inside your house. They should be completely covered in insulation. If not, take care of the problem with foam insulation sleeves or insulation tape.

This will help avoid excess energy loss, which will cut down on your electric bills and avoid over-taxing your HVAC system.

5. Hire a Professional Maintenance Service

While it certainly is possible to take care of your HVAC maintenance yourself, it’s easier and far safer to hire an HVAC company you can trust instead.

Most reputable companies have ongoing HVAC maintenance plans that will help ensure that your system works perfectly all summer long.
